VINYL SHUTTERS SAVE ENERGY, REDUCE COSTS - Friday, January 05, 2007
Better than alternatives, says home expert
WASHINGTON, DC, January 5 (VNS) – In a widely distributed online report, noted housing expert and author John C. Baker urges homeowners to install vinyl blinds and indoor shutters to save energy and reduce costs.
“Vinyl is the best all-around material for shutters,” Baker writes. “They can improve the appearance of nearly any home. Besides being aesthetically pleasing, they help with energy efficiency and they are not as expensive as wood.”
Yet vinyl shutters last longer than wood. “They won’t warp, swell or crack like wood. And they’re incredibly low maintenance.”
Vinyl is also preferable in areas where moisture tends to occur, like bathrooms or over a kitchen sink, Baker notes. “And if you live in a humid climate, vinyl is definitely the way to go.”
Vinyl shutters and blinds can be purchased at most home improvement stores, he notes, and are easy to install. Baker’s articles on shutters and similar home topics can be found at
