Target Should Be Applauded
ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 13, 2006 (VNS) – "Target should be applauded for putting its customers' interests above untruthful, bullying threats from people with an ideological agenda," Vinyl Institute President Tim Burns said today.

Burns was commenting on the Target stores' response to activist groups seeking to force retailers to stop carrying any goods made of vinyl. The activists' untruthful statements and orchestrated protests at store locations "are meant to intimidate consumers and retailers, ultimately depriving them of choice," Burns said in a letter to the St. Paul Pioneer Press of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Burns noted that even Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore sees the activists' attacks on vinyl as "reflecting a political agenda, not real health or environmental issues."

“Consumers,” Burns said, “know the benefits and safety of vinyl (PVC) windows, flooring, siding, pipe and other products."

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and other government agencies had found vinyl "safe and effective" in toys and other products, he noted.
